Neurodiversity-affirming Counselling

Scope of practice

The role of a counsellor is to provide a safe, validating, and accepting space for you to feel heard. It is to be a catalyst for self-insight, clarity, empowerment, personal growth, and wellbeing. At Finding Autism - Counselling & Therapy, we work exclusively with Autistic individuals and AuDHDers (Autism and ADHD) of all ages. We also support parents, partners, or siblings to better understand their Autistic/ADHD companions and how to support them.

Therapeutic Approach

To flexibly respond to and meet the needs of each unique client, we take an integrated approach to therapy. That is, multiple approaches to therapy are considered and applied during sessions, including, but not limited to:

Neurodiversity-affirming support principles - Exploring and validating neurodivergent identity, needs, and perspectives and considering support strategies that are affirming.

Strengths-based therapy - Valuing the capacity, knowledge, skills, and resources of each unique individual to overcome challenges or barriers to goals.

Integrated, holistic approach to support wellbeing - Mainly drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Expressive Therapies.

Founder and Counsellor, Amy Adams, is a late diagnosed AuDHDer who is passionate about supporting fellow neurodivergent individuals to find their own version of thriving.
