Welcome to Finding Autism

Counselling & Therapy

A letter from the Founder…

Hi there! I am a neurodivergent (Autistic and ADHD) counsellor. I am passionate about Autistic-led support in the autism space. On a mission to support and empower fellow Autistic peers to find their own version of thriving, I started Finding Autism.

Through counselling, therapy, consultancy, and resources, I offer support to Autistic children, teens, adults, and their loved ones. The Finding Autism support approach is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and personalised to each unique person. I don’t take a clinical approach to therapy. Rather, I aim to create a relational and authentic therapy environment that fosters connection, openness, trust, and unmasked humanness.

I am grateful that you are here and hope to be a source of support, growth, and encouragement along your life journey.

Amy Louise Adams
  • "My daughter feels so confident and put together after you have spoken with her. Thank you for always being available when she needs support and for helping children like mine feel confident with their disability."

Mellissa Butler, Parent of a counselling client

  • "Amy helps me feel recognised and validated without judgement. After my first 3 sessions, I felt really comfortable with her and I love that. I also love that she's very flexible during sessions. Amy helps me understand how I feel about different situations. She is good at listening when I need those times. I would recommend Finding Autism to others because I know I am not the only one struggling and think people who are neurodivergent need someone like Amy."

  • "I really enjoyed being guided through different aspects of my identity. Being given the opportunity to reflect on different aspects of my life in a way I hadn't done before was incredibly valuable and insightful. Getting excellent advice and suggestions has been the most helpful part. Amy's similar experiences helped me feel heard and understood. I would absolutely recommend Finding Autism to others."

  • "What I like best about my sessions with Amy is her Autistic communication style and empathy. Sessions have been helpful for me to develop scripts for self-advocacy and to understand my neurology better. I have gained: deeper insights into my needs, strategies for wellbeing, validation, more self acceptance, useful information and resources tailored to my neurodivergence, and a safe space to talk about my experiences."

  • "I really like how organised and prepared Amy is for sessions, yet how flexible she is too. For example, she will have a plan of what we will cover in sessions, with helpful resources on hand, and our sessions often pan out according to plan. Sometimes though, other stuff comes up in conversation, and in those instances, Amy is great at pivoting and working through that stuff with me instead. The sessions have been really helpful and Finding Autism offers a terrific service."

  • “Finding Autism is a fantastic organisation which has allowed me to better understand and communicate with my loved ones who are autistic. Through Amy's work, I've learnt so much about the misconceptions surrounding autism. Furthermore, I've become much better at connecting with my autistic friends."

    Kaitlin Moat

  • “I am quite familiar with Amy’s importance and empathetic work which so empowers girls & women on the autistic spectrum. I treasure her life’s service and mission that has led to profound growth, acceptance & frankly loving-kindness of self and others. I have spoken with parents deeply touched by her work performed with kindness, clarity and vision."

    Richard Davis, Autistic Man

  • "There was a sense of mutual understanding that I've never experienced before."

  • "Amy is absolutely a powerhouse of talent. She provided us a range of expertly created videos on topics of autism and diversity at work - all which were so concise, genuine, and clearly imbued with interests and passion. She even introduced research and statistics to support perspectives, and that made the videos all the more engaging."

Autumn O-Connor, Be Your Best Academy

  • “Your article on autistic women perfectly describes my experiences and is something I can send to family and friends to help them understand me and other autistic people. I don’t think I have ever come across one that so perfectly describes my whole experience and is easy to read and understand. Thank you!”

    Anonymous Autistic Woman

  • “Your article about autistic women was so beautifully put together and so important to get our message out there. I feel seen. I feel heard.”
